The Technology User Group at Quinnipiac University presents
Winning Fafnir’s Gold: Teaching with Digital Game-based Fiction
On March 3, 2011, Dr. Christopher Fee of Associate Professor of English at Gettysburg College will present on his experiences with game-based teaching using a multimedia, interactive fiction tool that he continues to develop. Fee’s teaching approach is applicable to a wide range of disciplines and involves the nexus between reading and writing, instructor digital asset management, and the shared pedagogical goal of student engagement.
Fee’s game requires students to gather information, exercise critical thinking skills and quantify their own intellectual journey as they enact on a virtual hunt through space and time in a fun and fascinating way. Central to his approach is a reflective component for each student: How did I solve the puzzle? What clues did I unearth? What intellectual tools did I utilize and/or develop?
